Hello! My name is Mark Johnson and I'm the pastor of Carson and Mt. Hope UMC's. I was raised in a small eastern Iowa town with a population of about 200 called Goose Lake. After graduating from Northeast Community School District, I moved to Pella to pursue a music degree from Central College. From there I moved to Iowa City where I worked for West Music Company for ten years. I have also been employed as a church musician throughout my life, and through that capacity, I met my wife Rev. Alexis Johnson at West Branch UMC. Together we have two children: Magdalene or “Maggie”  (7) and Nehemiah (4). 

Discerning a call to ministry in 2016, I enrolled in Iliff School of Theology in Denver, CO and was appointed Associate Pastor and Director of Christian Education at the UMC of Mt Vernon, IA. Two years later in 2018, my wife and I were appointed to Broadway UMC in Council Bluffs where I’ve been Associate Pastor for the past three years. Going forward, Rev. Alexis will continue to serve Broadway while I serve the good people of Carson and Mt. Hope. During my time at Broadway, I also completed my professional process and was Ordained as an Elder in the Iowa Annual Conference in July of 2021.
